You have a date lined up. You’re dressed to kill: The rainy season plays spoilsport and you end up looking like a female Frankenstein at a costume party.
So in order to make sure you look pretty in rainy season, we’ve got ways to make sure your make-up and hair stand up to the monsoon. Just follow our tips:

Don’t use foundation:  Its better not to use foundation during the monsoon unless you want to get caught in a messy situation. Try face powder instead-oil based one. That way all you will need to do when you get wet is pat your face dry with tissue. Water-resistant foundations work well and will leave you well- groomed. Also avoid using concealer in the monsoon; just touch up with foundation if you must, applying it on spots that need touching up-under-eye dark circles or blemishes.
Lesser the use of lipstick: Lipstick tends to get washed off very easily during the monsoon. A better option will be to line you lips with a lip liner and then fill it with a same. That it will stay on longer. Otherwise, stick to the long lasting color-stay/non transfer variety of lipstick. Keep the creamy, glossy ones aside and opt for powder matte tones or crème matte tints as they will give depth and enhance your appearance. Lighter shades work well this season, as it is less obvious even if the lipstick bleeds. Carry two basic shades of lipstick-brown and pink-in your handbag. Wear a rose pink lipstick with pink and purple outfits; the brown shade will go well with maroon and black assembles.

Stick with minimum eye makeup: Eye lashes made over with mascara give you a sensuous look like nothing else can. But it’s raining outside. So what? That’s what waterproof mascara and eyeliner are for. Give “Kajal” a pass in the monsoon-it spreads easily and can make you look scary. Stick with the minimum in eye make-up-starting with basic eyeliner. Opt for transparent moisturizing mascara that will highlight the lashes, rather than colored mascara. This also ensures that the mascara will not streak your face in case of unexpected downpour. Sheer film of light brown, beige, pastel or pink eye shadow can be used along with a thin line of eyeliner and use a coat or two of waterproof mascara.

Minimize the use of blusher: Blush looks prettiest when you can’t tell you’re wearing it. Cream blushers are water friendly. If your face gets wet, just dab it with a tissue and your blush will stay on. Blending is key, so be sure to blend outwards so that it does not look like a blob of color on the cheek. Shades of peaches and browns will make you stand out this season!
Avoid the use of eyebrow pencil:  Keep up the tweezing and threading, but stash your eyebrow pencil away for a while. Who wants to have black streaks running amok on one’s forehead! A neat trick we like instead: Put a little hair gel onto a brow brush and comb through a brow to keep them looking tidy.
And at last I must say, this is the minimalist season for jewellery and makeup, so it is the time to bring out light makeup techniques, which will make you look pretty throughout this season. Also get yourself an umbrella or raincoat that reflects your sunny disposition.
