As D day approaches, no doubt you will have most things in place one. Your newest arrival will soon be here, and he’s to stay and he won’t settle for the guest room. He wants your room or if you want him close to you, in your room, you will need to make preparations to ensure his comfort, and also yours. Listed below are some ways to help you make place for your little one:-

1. Things required for his sleeping arrangement: In the start, your baby will spend a large part of his early days sleeping and most probably keep you up half the nights. Keep in mind these things:
• Spend wisely while buying a comfort for your baby, so buying a cot that can be modified into a single bed, for a growing child, is better than buying a cradle which has limited use.
• Padding the sides of your cot but make sure that your baby will not be in danger of suffocating himself.
• When your baby chooses to sleep on your bed then make sure that mattress is clean and soft.
• In my opinion, no pillow is required for the new born.
• Opt for thin blanket, which will also provide better insulation.
• A mosquito net over the bed is required for your little one.
• Keep a dim light on, for you will need it while nursing at night.
• Buy a simple basket that can be slid under the bed, which includes extra nappies, an extra pair of clothes, extra bed sheets, a face napkin, water and medication.

2. For the changing sessions:
Although most parents change baby’s clothes on the bed, a changing station should be hygienic and practical and things required for this are:
• A changing station is a one stop area especially important because the baby must never be left unattached even for a second that it would take to bring something from elsewhere.
• Have a station at a convenient height.
• The changing station should be equipped with sufficient drawers and shelves for storage.
And drawer must include:
• Diapers, pins and disposal bags.
• Baby wipes and washcloths
• Warm water
• Baby powder, cream and Vaseline etc.
• Cloth diapers(if you’re using them)
• Medication for nappy rash etc.

3. For bathing your newborn, keep these points in mind:-
Bathing a new born baby can be an intimidating task for parents. Keep these points in mind to help you master this one…
o The baby’s head and neck are delicate at an infant stage, so invest in a good bathtub or bathmat.
o If you are using the basin as a bathtub, place a towel in it before you bath the child.
o Never leave the baby unattached around the water. Even half an inch is enough to drown a child.
o Have a wide shallow plastic bucket to stock baby bath supplies.

4. Feeding your baby:
Feeding the baby is an activity that takes up days and nights. Make it more comfortable…(breastfeeding is proven to be the best for the baby and you, so try to nurse him for as long as your pediatrician recommends)
• You can nurse your baby, sitting on the bed and using a few pillows to bring him more comfortably to your breast.
• Alternatively, you can work with a regular chair that has an armrest.
• Take everything you will need-bibs, water, napkins, feeding bottle if you must before you start to feed your baby.

5.To provide enough space for your little one:
• Personalize baby’s corner of the room or even your whole bedroom.
• If you hang toys around his cot, make sure they are sturdily fastened.
• If you have older children, make sure that the baby is protected from any untoward interference.
• If you have a pet, make sure it is keeps away from the baby.
• A playpen or cot on wheels will allow you to move baby into whichever room you’re working in, so you can watch over him.
• A big spacious stroller with hood to protect the child from the sun is a great buy.
• Invest in a good car seat- one where you can strap baby into safely while on the move.
I think by following these ways parents can provide enough space for their new born baby and hence make it more comfortable.
