Leaders have a huge impact on the creativity of their team mates. And the effect need not necessarily be positive. So we have aspects, both positive and negative which will help you to consider which one is best for you.

Positive approach: Research which has turned into a penetrating study states that employees’ perceptions of team leader support were more positive when the leader engaged into the following types of effective behavior:

• Monitoring the work effectively means giving timely feedback and reacting to problems in the work with understanding and help.

• Providing socio emotional support like showing support for a team member’s actions or decisions; helping alleviate stressful situations for subordinates; socializing; keeping team members informed about stressful situations; addressing subordinates’ negative feelings; and disclosing personal information.

• Recognizing good work privatively and publicly.
• Consulting subordinates about the work that means asking for team members’ ideas and opinions; acting on subordinates’ ideas or wishes.
Negative approach:
Research also shows that employees’ perceptions of team leader support are more negative when the leader is engaged in following types of ineffective actions:

• Monitoring the work ineffectively like checking on the status of assigned work too often and long; displaying an inadequate understanding of subordinates’ capabilities or work; providing no constructive; negative feedback on work done; and displaying a lack of interest in subordinates’ work or ideas.

• Failing to effectively clarify role and goals. This means giving assignments that are not appropriate for a team member; not providing enough clarity about an assignment; changing assignments that conflict with other management instructions.

• Dealing with problems ineffectively. Because he wants to avoid solving problems; creating problems for his subordinates.
The research concluded that for the most part, positive emotions are associated with higher creativity while negative emotions are associated with lower creativity.
