Whether you are travelling for going on a holiday or for some other purpose, I would like you to know the precautions to be taken while flying. Air travel has no wrong or significant effect on your health. However, it is a well known fact that travelling long distances in a pressurized cabin altitude does have some effects on the human body. So here I have put together some simple tips to help you make sure that you fly and arrive at your destination in tip-top shape.
Always try to change positions often and avoid crossing your legs. Immobility poses the greatest risk effect in developing clotting disorders such as deep vein thrombosis.
Get out of your seat frequently and walk around the cabin regularly to improve the circulation.
Do the exercises and follow the advices which are given in programmed channels on all flights. That will help you feel more refreshed when you arrive at your destination.
No pills or medicines should be taken unless it is recommended by your doctor who is aware of your intention to fly. Never take sleeping pills while on a flight as it reduces your mobility and make you feel sluggish.
Try to avoid flying with a heavy cold or ear problems as cabin pressures change during the flight may cause some discomfort. If you experience some problems during the flight, suck a sweet, chew or hold your nostrils and gently blow through your nose. This should equalize the pressure in most healthy people.
Drink plenty of water or fruit juices. Avoid alcohol, tea and coffee or carbonated drinks, as they will dehydrate you.
Avoid having heavy meals and foods. Air expands at altitude and heavy meals will result in that bloated feeling.
Your skin may feel dry. Especially your lips and nostrils, this time moisturizing creams may help you. So don’t forget to carry a moisturizer cream in your hand bag. If you wear contact lenses, always carry your glasses with you as your eyes may feel dryer than usual.
Always wear loose fitting and comfortable clothes and shoes while traveling by air.
To minimize the effect s of jet-lag, set your watch to your destination time as soon as you board the aircraft and try to adjust your sleeping pattern accordingly.
You should not fly if you have been SCUBA diving wit in the last 48 hours or you have undergone general anesthetic or received dental treatment with in 48 hours, and if you have donated blood in the past 24 hours.
I hope, taking such precautions while traveling will make your travel much more comfortable.
