If you say that women are iconic image of Durga, with her multiple limbs, then this is true. Career, home, children, friends, the list goes on; women could honest do with an extra pair of hands. A couple of extra hours on the clock would help as well, because women today have a tough call, with managing home and children, being perfect hostesses and climbing the corporate ladder with élan. Some women can do this all and that too, with cool heads. The secret behind this is time management and delegation. Also, it’s true that they are naturally efficient and are able to balance their various roles with ease.
But for most of the women, multitasking is not by choice, but it is a necessity. After all you are a human being; how you can stay calm doing too many different tasks with an equal amount of concentration. In fact, male brain can focus on one task at a time. But on the other hand, women are natural multitaskers, they can balance home and work with equal flair, but the best part is that they also stay calm amidst it all.
In my opinion this is because most of the women have patience by nature that helps them to work efficiently, conserving energy and thinking calmly. And moreover they are thinkers by nature; therefore they don’t act impulsively and manage to coordinate things better. Here are some suggestions for women to do better multitasking:
Time management: An important step towards time management is to start your day knowing what you need to accomplish during the course of the day. One trick, which seems to work for many women, is that of actually listing out the things to do on the paper, and then crossing out as they get done like:
• Tackle tough tasks first.
• Group similar activities together and do them concurrently.
• Delegate tasks which don’t need your personal attention.
• Learn to see free time productively.
• Cut down on face to face meetings. Substitutes them with phone calls or emails.
• Learn to say no clearly and without guilt or explanation to tasks that will eat into your time and are non essential.
Make your things to do list:
• Block a period of time for ‘have to be done today’ tasks.
• Cross out the things done from the list as you finish them.
• Know your strengths and weaknesses. If you are more alert in the morning, schedule important tasks then.
• Keep some time free for unexpected emergencies.
• Cut a really big task to manageable bits and schedule it across a week.
• Do schedule time for recreation and socializing.
• Also, make a list of long term goals.
Modern technology is also a lifesaver, and helps get a zillion tasks done simultaneously, for instance, you can reply on phone while traveling. Or you can prepare your food while watching your favorite TV serial. There is lot of other rime savers. Schedule a fixed time during the day when you need to check and deal with all your messages and calls, because they eat lot of your time. With a little bit of time management and planning, you can juggle various roles with élan. Whosoever said necessity is the mother of invention couldn’t have been more right.
