Generally, novelty for toys diminishes after children’s prolonged play, if they do not help in their mental growth. There are so many toys coming up in the market. There are toys that many mothers are shopping for because they are new inventions. But after the novelty wears off, that toy does not hold the child’s attention. Experts say, that the toys that develop children’s thinking skills are also the ones that kids like best and they are not the newest, latest or hottest games but they are classics and are old fashioned toys, like blocks, beads, puzzles and dolls. Yale university researchers confirm this finding. Children play longer with these classic toys, because each of these toys helps children learn in a different way, and they are often the least expensive. So experts come up with some unexpected advice on, why the simple old fashioned toys that we are grew up with are the best choice for our own kids?
Blocks: They boost problem solving skills. There is no other toy on earth that can do so much for a child, says an expert. Most importantly, they help, the child to learn solving problems and develop the kid’s patience, perseverance and creative thinking as they figure out how to construct a bridge or a roof that won’t fall. Blocks also allow a child to absorb the basics of science, such as balance and gravity, as well as identify geometric figures.
Puzzles: They develop both sides of the brain. Puzzles help to develop both the logical detail oriented left side or the brain that helps the child with the hand eye coordination needed to grab pieces, and the spatially oriented creative right side of the brain that helps the child visualize the whole world and see which piece goes where, says a clinical psychologist. She further adds, the more your child uses both sides of her brain, the stronger they will become.
Beads: They give your child a permanent edge in maths. Studies are finding that children, who learn to count and sort by using beads, either loose ones or the kind that come strung on hard wires between a wooden frame may have a permanent edge over the children in mathematics. Researchers now know that the more senses a child uses as she learns, the stronger the neuron pathway in the brain becomes, and those the same pathways that will help the child master more complex math skills later.
Dolls: Many little girls play with dolls with dolls for hours, holding imaginary tea parties and weddings, there are now rubber water proof dolls that can be taken in the bath tub while the child bathes. Experts say that playing with dolls or action figures is not waste of time, because they encourage and nurture’s a child’s imagination.
Toy cars: A little boy can never have enough of toy cars. It is the beginning of his future love of cars. Lego games are expensive, but those who can afford them know how educational they can be. Many parents help their children to take good care of their toys, and eventually, they are passed down from generation to another.
A donation of toys to hospitals can brighten the lives of many children who cannot hope to posses such playthings. Servants too appreciate old toys that are given to their children by kind employers and this also teaches your child to share and give.
