There is a saying in Hindi which has a meaning that the interest is always more dear than the principal amount. And if you ask any of the grandparents you know and they’ll tell you that they are more attached to their kids children as compared to they have been with their own kids. There is no particular reason for it but it comes out naturally. Grandparents are the feel-good factors in every child's life. They play
a big role in their growing years. Some common joys grandparents share; These grandchildren brings a smile to your face, special times which is just for you and grandchildren only are the most precious time they look forward too.

WHAT MAKES THE BOND SO SPECIAL?
Grandparents and grandchildren get along like a house on fire, because they belong to the same age group. It may sound surprising but it holds out true as grandchildren bring second childhood to their grandparents. This relationship comes free of stress and expectations and with no time constraints. Unfortunately, in these times of nuclear families, many children are denied this pleasure. But there are ways to knock down the distance factor.

PARENTS' ROLE
Don't deny your kids quality time with their grandparents. They'll be thanking you for years to come if you make that little effort now. Help your child create time for nurturing this special bond.
1. Keeping the communication channels wide open and also guide the kids through them.
2. By teaching them how to care, respect and be responsible; you can be a living example for them if your parents live with you.
3. Making your parents feel they form an important part of your lives, involve them in activities, solicit their advice and opinion and your kids will learn great values of family bonding.
4.  Even if you aren't living with your parents, you can ensure that the children keep in regular touch with them, whether through visits, phone calls, snail mail or email.

GRANDPARENTS' ROLE
1. If your children have to live away from you, don't nag. Keep the relationship alive through other channels.
2. Pamper your grandkids but don’t interfere with their parents ideas on bringing them up.
3. Let them do the parenting while you enjoy your special role in their lives. Give advice when asked to, but then let go.
4. Work with your children, not against them, and refrain from running them or their ideas down in front of your grandchildren.
5. Nothing like good old tales to make bedtime a memorable and fun routine for your grandkids.

It is sad to note that the older generation is an unwanted part of our lives. We seem to forget that they are the very reason of our being.  Their harmless whims may be a small price to pay for the sheer depth they bring to your life and your kids.
