We all have limitations of the skin nature has given us. Some possess dry skin which is prone to wrinkles and side effects of sun at a young age. Some have oily skin which may make your face shine but it could harm to the pores. Oily skin seems to get worse with hot and humid weather but is hardly any better when it gets cooler.
WHY YOU HAVE OILY SKIN?
IF you have oily skin, chances are that your grandparents might have had it. Doctors agree that heredity is one of the biggest causes of oily skin. This condition peaks at puberty. However, it can carry on through your 20s and 30s. Some other reasons are:
Hormonal Imbalance: When there is excess androgen production, the sebaceous glands become over-active, producing extra sebum or oil. This happens during the teenage years, pregnancy, while using birth control pills.
Wrong Cosmetic Products: Faulty skin care regimes can lead to excessive oiliness of the skin. Indian skin is more prone to oiliness. Inappropriate products lead to oiliness and clogging of pores, giving rise to blackheads. If we are not diligent about unclogging our skin pores then even normal skin can become oily.
Humidity and heat as well as unhealthy eating and erratic lifestyles aggravate the problem.
HANDLING OILY SKIN
Drink lots of water
It is advisable to drink 10 to 15 glasses of water a day. Water helps flush out toxins from our body. Try water and tomato juice to flush out the toxins from your skin. Mix the juice of four tomatoes with four peppercorns and a dash of honey. Drink this concoction first thing in the morning, before eating anything else. The anti-oxidants in the juice will cleanse you internally. Rub the left-over pulp over your face to tighten the pores and brighten your skin.
Eat right
Experts emphasize the importance of a good diet to fight seborrhea, the main cause of oily skin. Eat fibrous vegetables which include leafy stuff, cabbage, carrots, ridged gourd etc daily to keep the system clean internally. To keep pimples at bay, go on a complete raw and boiled food diet for a week every month. Such diet detoxifies your skin well and helps it regain its pH balance.
Use the right kind of skin products.
To manage oily skin you need to look out for skincare products that contain active ingredients such as glycolic acid and/or retinoic acid. These active ingredients are exfoliates and are effective in the treatment of enlarged pores and excessive sebum production.
Look for ingredients like alpha hydroxyl acids, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. These dry up an erupting blemish very fast. Avoid toners or astringents with alcohol as it can strip your skin of oil completely and make it very dry and prone to wrinkling.
Exercise Regularly.
Regular Cleansing
Oily skin requires regular cleansing, at least three times a day with warm water. The aim is to remove excess oil without total removal of skin lipids.
