A newly born baby is five times more sensitive than you or me. With the chill getting more into the weather day by day, the care for your little babies becomes more important. Unlike adults, a new born baby is not able to control or change his/her body temperature and one should pay extra attention to cater the temperature needs of the new born baby. If the child’s cheeks are little red than the normal, then it could be the sign that the child is feeling cold. They say that prevention is always better than cure so be cautious about the child care in winters. Do remember the following;

1. If the child’s diaper is wet and heavy, change it immediately.
2. Check on the child’s vest or the place he is lying on. It should be dry and even it is little wet, it could make the child feel cold.
3. Remember to make your child wear a warm vest preferably the woolen one in winters. It will prevent his chest.
4. When you are taking your child out in winters, make sure that the child is wearing enough warm wearing. And if your child wears the cap make him/her wears one. Some children are in a habit of taking them off. In that case don’t think of the cap at all. The rule of clothes I follow is to make them wear one extra sweater to what I am wearing.
5. The skin of the children is very delicate, so do not make them wear synthetic clothes.
6. Wash your child’s clothes with soft soap instead of the detergent powder which is hard on clothes.
7. In winters it is very important to massage your child regularly. It not only nourishes your child’s body but also increases the blood circulation. You can massage your child in the sun and make sure you do not take all his clothing off.
8. In winters after the bath, put warm clothes immediately after drying the baby properly. Make sure that the bathroom door is closed. Make sure the water is warm for the bath and pour water slowly with your hands on the child’s body.
9. Everyday bath is not compulsory in winters, but do clean your baby’s body everyday.
10. Don’t put clothes more than required as it could cause irritation to the child.
11. Take your child in the sun in mornings and late afternoons. The afternoon sun could cause rashes to your child’s skin.
12. Arrange appropriate room temperature by means of steam or you can also use heaters.

In cases of pre mature babies you have to take extra care. It is important that you look after from food to clothing well so that first winters for your child goes well. In case of some abnormality noticed, don’t hesitate to go to child specialists immediately.
