Indian culture is the history of great stories, great places and great men. But the interest of the present youth is losing interest in the rich heritage of the country. With foreign trips getting cheaper, parents are taking their kids for the vacation abroad and they too seem to enjoy it. Try out taking together trips and teach the lesson of importance of our nation’s history.

DELHI
1. RED FORT- a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is where the Indian Flag rose for the first time in independent India. India’s Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru spoke about India’s tryst with destiny as he addressed the people of the free nation for the first time.
2. INDIA GATE- India Gate was built to remember the soldiers of the First World War, burns the ‘Amar Jawan Jyothi’, or the ‘Flame of the Immortal Warrior’. One can also visit Rajpath and Vijay Chowk.

AMRITSAR
1. Jallianwala Bang - Here on April 13, 1919, Brigadier-General Dyer ordered the soldiers of British Indian Army to open fire on unarmed men, women and children, killing about 1800 people. The incident went on to spur the independence movement in Punjab and across India.

MUMBAI
1. August Kranti Maidan- From this very ground, on 8 August 1942, Mahatma Gandhi declared the Quit India movement. This spurred thousands of ordinary people to protest across the land, and put the British Government on the defensive.
2. Gateway Of India - At the Gateway of India, mutineers fired into the air and positioned themselves to take on the fully armed British forces.

PUNE
1. Sinhagad- Once called Kondhana, the fort stands on a hill over 800 meters high. This was the location of many important battles.
2. Aga Khan Palace- This is also known as the Kasturba Gandhi Memorial. It was built in 1892 to provide employment for people hit by famine in the area. It was the prison of Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom movement.

BANGALORE
1. Srirangapatnam- This was the summer capital of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, and witness to one of the first wars against the British. One can see the remains of the Battles of Srirangapatnam.
2. Hampi- Around 350 km from Bangalore, this site of magnificent ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire reminds you of the glory of India.

CHENNAI
1. Fort William - This is the first British fortress in India, built in 1644. The canons of Tipu Sultan are here, and at the base of the 14.5 m statue is a scene showing the handover of Tipu's children, who were held hostage in exchange for ransom.

KOLKATA
1. Shantiniketan - In its portals, the world’s best thinkers like W.B Yeats, Albert Einstein, expressed their solidarity with the Indian Freedom movement.
2. Murshidabad - The site of the first battles of Indian Independence, you will see evidence of it in the many palaces across town.
