Incorrect shoes cause discomfort, injury, even permanent deformity in the feet. The following is the list of distressed foot disorders which are caused directly from your shoes or are the result of health conditions, and how deal with them.

ACHILLES
It is inflammation in the Achilles tendon which is the tough band extending from calf muscle to heel and results in pain when touched or when you start to move. It could be caused by overuse of sneakers with too soft heel or too stiff soles that do not bend where the toes join the feet. Take a break from the provocateur activities. If you continue to run, rigid sear-tissue forms and you will always have pain during exercise, with virtually no chance of a cure. Alternate hot and cold foot baths will help in curing it. Try popping painkillers like ibuprofen; naproxen etc if the pain is not bearable. Apply ice. Freeze water in a paper cup, turn upside down and rub ice against the skin.

Slip the cutouts into your shoes. A perfect fit means no wrinkling. Wear socks when trying on a pair. Allow for adequate toe space. There should be no strain under the big toe, little toe and heel. Let shoes be deep enough, to prevent blistering. If the insoles wear and tear, especially near the big toe, it’s time for a change.

FOOTWEAR AND AGE
Choose your footwear with extra care as you get older. Older people often cannot bend down to reach the feet, and weeks go without cleaning them. This can be dangerous because the person can fall. Caregivers must watch out for swollen feet, untapped toe nails, sores between the toes, thick rounded calluses.

When your feet age, dry skin, picks yellow curved toe nails; fungal infections; pain in the balls of the feet cause of loss of their protective pads etc things occur. The feet may actually enlarge in length and width because of changes in ligament and joints, so larger or special footwear is required.

ATHLETE’S FOOT
This fungal infection is typically picked up in warm moist areas like pool/gym locker rooms, shower cubicles and such in the form of cracked and peeling skin, itchy, burning reddish blisters specially between the toes and on the soles. Wear open sandals or canvas shoes. Cotton socks wick away moisture. Change daily or more often. Air out your feet to avoid the culprits. Wash feet with soap and water, separate toes and gently rub away peeling skin with clean towel. Sprinkle fungicidal powder between the toes. Use OTC fungicidal ointments two or three times daily till infection clears.

BLISTERS
Blisters or deep cracks need to be treated by a dermatologist. They are bubbles of fluid form beneath a thin layer of dead skin, because of friction with your shoes. Apply a medicated cream.
Put a dry sterile pad on the bubble and fix with plaster. If it breaks wash with antiseptic soap
arid continue to keep covered. See a doctor if the blister shows redness, pus, swelling, heat etc.
