Water is one of the three basic necessities for living. Nearly 70% of human body is consisted of water and this is one of the prime reasons why man is always seeking water in his vicinity, whether it’s at home, on a holiday or even a simple walk along the riverside. Water effects us in many positive ways not just in the presence of water, but even the sound of it is music have therapeutic effect to our ears, simulating a lovely, peaceful ambience.

Because of its calm qualities, water is a favorite of interior decorators as well as feng shui and other experts to create rejuvenating atmosphere in your home or garden in the form of small or big water features. Water is considered an important element in the ‘feng shui’ science. Its flow, presence and accumulation within or near your home or garden have a significant effect on your possessions, financial luck and general accumulation and abundance of wealth luck. Water, in feng shui, represents the flow of money.

The science divides between water bodies into two basic divisions: Big water and small water. Big water usually refers to lakes and rivers in the natural environment and small water denotes artificial, man-made water bodies like indoor or outdoor fountains, birdbaths, garden ponds or aquariums. Yin water is still water that has no plants, no movement and is usually dark and deep. It works as an excellent cure for certain feng shui afflictions. On the other hand, yang water is utilized as a wealth enhancer. There may be many reasons for having the water body around but one thing should be made sure is that the water is kept fresh and unpolluted and is circulating to maintain positive chi-flow.

Having fish in a pond or in an aquarium is very auspicious. Keep nine goldfish in a bowl, eight red and one black. They take the bad luck cast on you if any. Avoid keeping Fish or fountains in the bedroom, toilet or kitchen. By adding a water feature either to your garden or inside your home, you attract fresh and positive chi, which is considered highly beneficial for your health, destiny and wealth luck.

Water features are best when placed cither in the East (area for family, health and growth), South-east (area for wealth and abundance) or North (area for career and progress). Placing a dragon near your water feature bring auspicious times. Avoid facing your water feature out of your home, office or garden. Always make sure you place the fountain so that the water is flowing inward, toward the heart of your home as this symbolizes money flowing into your hands.

Water features also increase the humidity level in the environment, which in turn decreases dust, pollutants and static electricity. Flowing water also increases negative ions in the air. An excessive amount of positive ions (which are created by pollution, among other factors) can result in sickness and depression. Water fountains help balance these negative and positive ions.
Water features are pleasant by their relaxing, gurgling sound and their attractive appearance by themselves, but in feng shui they are a precious aid used for several positive applications.
