Enjoy The Highway Rated by 1 users
By: Payal Jain, In TravelHits - Today: 24, This Week: 0, Month: 0, Total: 0Updated: Tuesday, April 15, 2008 Some people are traveloholic, they love to travel, see new sights and enjoy new experiences. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm of their spirit is not fully shared by their body. The journey can be a pain in the neck if you suffer from motion sickness. The constantly getting sick on the way, ruin the mood for others who hate the idea of stopping every few kilometers and delaying the journey by a couple of hours. Distract your mind so that you don’t think of motion sickness. This is a good strategy and soon you will begin to enjoy the journey into the hills or elsewhere as much as the stay itself.
But being involved in an activity also depends upon the company you are travelling with. Counting milestones is not exciting and if you decide to sleep in the car, then you not only miss out on all the beautiful scenery but also have your husband rave and rant about how boring it is to travel with you or when you are flying then let him eye all the pretty young airhostesses. In order to ensure that motion sickness, do not ruin your holidays. Look out for something new and different to keep your mind off the road. One of the most interesting ways is to pay attention to all the road signs that the highways authorities or organizations responsible for road maintenance and safety put up on the roads.
Some really make you think how creative the writer would have been. Sample this: “This is a highway not a runway”, or “Mind your brakes or break your mind” or “Hurry burry spoils the curry” and “Safety on road is safe tea at home”. An ad agency would be better suited for such creativity. Most of the signs are related to speed and meant as friendly advice to drivers but the authorities do not mince words like “Be slower on earth than quicker to eternity”.
Somebody at the highway authority has a taste for music and often, famous lyrics also find their way into some of the slogans like “The hills are alive with the sound of music, listen.” Then, there are signs which spell out the consequences of rash driving in no uncertain terms. I don't know if these road signs help get the message across and have actually managed to reduce the number of accidents on the roads in the hills for instance, but one thing is for sure, they definitely add humor to a long and tiring road journey up in the hills. Besides giving attention to the signs you can take the camera along and click whatever intrigues you on the way. Reading a book is another option. One can also take crossword puzzles or other play alone games which keeps you involved even if your co traveler is not interested in playing Antakshari. Popping up a pill before starting the journey will keep your body off the motion sickness syndrome and being involved will keep your mind off. So next time you hit the highway, enjoy it.
