Furniture Shopping Rated by 1 users
By: Payal Jain, In Home & GardenHits - Today: 43, This Week: 0, Month: 0, Total: 0Updated: Thursday, April 24, 2008 Shopping for anything can be very tedious because one tends to look for all options before actually parting with the cash. But if you have done the homework and planned properly, it can become fun and an exciting exercise. When it comes to furniture, you want the very best to suit your style and budget. Decide on which one you want it to be and enjoy the shopping spree with the following hot tips.
1. Make sure you have the floor plan of the space you are looking furniture for in drawing or in your mind. Do write all measurements and dimensions and taking a photograph of the space.
2. You might have liked some furniture pieces in the magazines, take the cutouts and don’t forget to carry paint samples from the room and other things in the room
3. Think long term. Today fashion may not remain tomorrow and if you are not looking for changing furniture every three years go for the furniture that suits the space and is little in terms with modern times.
4. See the furniture well, evaluate the quality of the line, see the different finishes available, and determine if the company makes things that have a finish you like. Check out the other accessories. Even without buying a thing, you can get lots of ideas to take home.
5. Stores can play tricks with your sense of proportion. Carry a measure tape and use it on everything you intend to buy. You might want a sofa but realize that you really only have room for a loveseat or a pair of armless chairs.
6. Fabric looks different under different lighting conditions. Before you buy a piece of upholstered furniture, take the sample of the fabric home and see how it will look in the daylight as well as night in the space you want to use it and also see how it will go with other things in the room. When it comes to choosing the fabric, think hi terms of wear, durability and ease of care.
7. Never buy a piece of furniture without testing it out. Sit, sink or lie on it. If it’s a sofa you plan to use for napping or reading, stretch out on it in the store.
8. Don’t get carried away with the sales or heavy discounts. If the piece doesn’t work with your room’s scale, style or colors, you will end up spending for a piece which is complete waste.
9. Buying furniture takes time, so give you chance to look around and comparison shop.
10. Don’t go furniture shopping with friends or relatives. You will be more confused. Limit the input to your significant other or one friend with exquisite taste.
11. Measure the size of every opening leading up to the room where the piece will sit. If you live in an apartment, measure the elevator door and compartment, or the service elevator, if there is one.
12. Set your budget and look the furniture in that limit only as it is very disheartening when you see something and than finding that you can’t afford.
