India is a colorful country where people of different religions, regions, languages and cultures live together since the time immemorial. Majority of people of India are decedents of immigrants from across the Himalayas as stated by sociologists and so the racial diversity is very perplexing. Besides racial diversity, there are diversities of language, religion, region, culture and climate. So India is not religiously, linguistically, culturally and regionally a homogenous state, rather, it is a heterogeneous state.

Had the people, particularly, the politicians in India and outside known this eternal truth, there would be no bitterness, or conflict in the name of religion and language. Had the politicians are fair to all regions, religions and races there would be harmony and peace all over. Right from the nuclear unit of the society which is the family, differences or diversities become part of life. The husband and wife belong to entirely different backgrounds. They have their differences over family expenditure and sociability, but they have to find out some means to iron out their differences and get going. It is the same story with our neighborhood. For nobody can choose his neighbor. Nuclear families living in big cities find that a friendly neighbor has been greater use to them than a brother living thousands of miles away.

In India we find the followers of all the religions of the world, people speaking different languages and belonging to different racial stocks. India has 22 officially recognized languages, but it is said to have nearly 1652 mother tongues. Despite the striking differences in terms of race, religion, language and culture, India has grown to be one entity, enriched by a common heritage-common history, common geography and cultural diversity. Through centuries of tolerance and patience, the people of India evolved the great concept of eternal India chat survives to this day as India.

But politicians are trying to divide the people on the name of religion. They, for their vested interests involved religion in politics and played with the faith of people. In the hour of crisis, we all people should have patience and find the way to come out from these crises. Even small gestures demonstrate that humanity is one and tolerance is religion. Our society is so intertwined that all the people of different religions and cultures live together with harmony, as they are brothers. Hindus celebrate Idd, Gurpurav and Christmas with great pomp and show. Similarly people of other religions celebrate Diwali, Lohri and Pongal with same gaiety. So all people in India despite of various diversities, had been living with each other amicably for generations, but it is the politicians who seek to divide them.

These politicians survive on hatred and bad blood and it is a time for all of us irrespective of religion or culture, to come forward together bearing ill-will to none and nursing only goodwill for all. All the same, let us not forget that the religion, culture, language and region are sensitive issues swaying the emotions of people. It is only when the politicians inject the poison of politics that harmony sours into a bitter brew. Let religion and other diversities be kept away from even the casual touch of the politicians and even let the politicians be kept away from our peaceful living.
