With the advent of 19th Century, there happened rapid development in the scientific knowledge and put to use in every sphere of life and shift of the economy towards the system of mass production and new products were developed to satisfy growing needs of the people thus an industrial based society was formed. Our wants and need continue to grow by leaps and bound and so on our greed to grab and accumulate more and more of the resources available on the earth, further use of technology helped us to produce more, a race for more production led to the over exploitation of natural resources, deforestation, deep mining for minerals, deep drilling for extraction of Coal, Petroleum and Radioactive substances without any care to know the end consequences that such merciless exploitation, may cause, a sort of imbalance in the ecological system provided by the nature.
With the advancement of Knowledge in Life Sciences many disease epidemic were eliminated, population growth took place at much faster rate in comparison to the past thousands of years this also made the a way for large scale burning of carbon and Hydrocarbon which were otherwise locked up under the earth's surface for millions of years, all this phenomena led to the high concentration of gases as Carbon Dioxide, Carbon monoxide, Nitrous Oxide, Methane and others, in the atmosphere In the normal course of time, these gases were absorbed by the vegetation frosts present on the earth surface but with the urbanization taking place the frost cover was drastically reduced, while on the other hand extensive use of technology exploitation and mass consumption of fossil fuel continue to grow manifold, these gases continued to accumulate at the upper end of global atmosphere, piercing hole into the Ozone layer damaging this layer which have been provided by the nature as filter shield for the survival of life on this planet earth, against harmful effect of incoming cosmic rays, this is commonly known as the Green House Effect and it’s consequential effect, overall rise in global temperature, melting ice from polar caps, shrinking water reserves, devastation due to floods high speed winds typhoons, unusual high torrential rains submerging of large inhabitant area under the sea and aftermath water shortage etc.
The Global change in climate agreed to tackle the problem in a united way through voluntarily steps but with non binding targets, however this was followed by an important agreement, Kyoto Protocol. Kyoto Protocol is a pact agreed by Governments in 1997 in UN conference held in Kyoto Japan. Many Indians Companies are in the race to gain carbon credits. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been working on its energy conservation projects and to gain carbon credits from regenerative braking system that saves about 30% of energy each time brakes are applied, it hopes to gain point for having encouraged people to use public transport.
People’s effort is the most important. In order to have mobilization of opinion and action of the masses in the reduction of GHG there is a urgent need to change our life style, the technology have made our life more comfortable but dependent upon energy, mostly generated from the burning of fossil fuel thus causing ecological imbalances, we need to change our life style encouraging physical activities as and where feasible, and cultivate the habit towards low consumption.
