In any case, ever wondered how frustrating it is if you always need 20 minutes to fish out any document. Is it not time consuming too? In my experience, I find that women who have a disorganized drawer at the workplace would have a similar one at home. Well given our hectic schedules, it is likely to be the case not only at workplace but at home as well. No need to dig into your cupboard for the important documents you need immediately; just follow these suggestions and the contents of your drawers will be at your finger tips!

At home: Apart from closets, our homes are replete with valuables that we store in drawers. There are plenty of important papers too, like those related to tax, investments, banks, mark sheets etc. If you do not take regular stock of it, you might have twenty drawers but all in complete disarray. We scouted around for some of the neatest drawers in sight, in office and at home and this is what we came up with.

Think tall: If you are about to buy some storage devices for your home, always opt for slim, tall ones, so that each compartment has a lot of space within, without looking it. And instead of the typical dull brown, opt for a stylish shade like white and if you are more adventurous, red or even orange. The latter words very well in homes with funky interiors or brightly coloured walls. As a matter of fact, I converted a worn-out horizontal bookcase in my house with several; compartments into a chambers of drawers. Well I simply turned it from horizontal to a tall, vertical piece; had it painted white, with pull out sections in each bracket. I placed it beside my bedside table. A very pretty flower vase with a sunflower sits pretty atop it. It looks gorgeous and is utilitarian too.

Build up theme: Of course, drawers need to be cleaned of their clutter regularly but according to home maker. In many homes I know, the place near the drawers is often a mess. You will have sundry items kept on top of these bulky drawers, right from bills to vases to magazines and newspapers. Clean this area first, else you will never be able to or even want to reach the drawers to open and see what useful items lay inside them. Now that you have sorted the area surrounding the drawers by throwing away junk, take on the drawers with gusto. Get each set of valuables or important papers stored in accordance with their basic use in that room, instead of putting them all in the cupboard in your master bedroom. And before you decide what stays in the drawers and what doesn’t; the golden rule most organized women I know, follow is, ‘if it has not been touched in the last two years, it won’t be. Just think it. Or keep in the locker, as the case may be.

Markers: A colleague of mine is into bookmarks and not merely when it comes to reading a book. For quickly picking up the set of papers you want from within a voluminous file at work or at home, make ample use of bookmarks and label them diligently. One look at the file and you will know from its sides where to find whatever you are looking for instead of going through all the papers is a wise suggestion.
