You don’t have to break down walls-rather try mirrors! Mirrors are a great design accessory and when placed strategically, can liven up any room, making it look brighter and larger.

Functional uses:
• The most obvious place for a mirror is the bathroom, because a good sized mirror, mounted in a frame or hanging on the wall over the basin, is perfect when you are shaving, applying make up and so on. If you have the space, hang on the mirror with an adjustable arm directly facing the mirror on the sink. That way, you will be able to look at the back of your head without hanging to juggle with a hand held mirror.

• A full length mirror is a must in any bedroom. You could have a conventional dressing table mirror or, if you so desire, hang one inside your closet or mount it behind the door. Install it where you will have enough room to stand back and see yourself.

• Have a home office? If your desk faces the wall, you might consider installing a wall mounted mirror above it. It will make your home office look larger and you will be able to keep an eye out for anyone who’s approaching you.

• Children love looking into mirrors. Their room is the perfect place to have fancy mirrors, mirrors shaped in the form of a moon, a star or an animal and so on.

• Mirrors help visually expand small, narrow spaces. Place mirrors on either side of a narrow hallway or room to make the area seem less claustrophobic. An easy and affordable way to create an illusion of depth is to cover an entire wall with a mirror. To help lose definition of the edges of a small room and extra sparkle, use thin strips of mirror at the top. Of the walls just below the ceiling.

• You can also use mirrors to reflect an interesting architecture feature or bring balance to a room.

Aesthetic uses:
• Decorative wall mirrors can add glamour to any home. Choosing the right mirror will work wonders and leave your guests impressed.

• The placement of the mirror should be such that it reflects something that is worth reflecting. A mirror placed opposite a window will enhance natural light in a room. It will also serve as an alternative to a traditional painting by reflecting the landscape outside.

• Mirrors form an excellent backdrop for your artistic collections; they will reflect them doubly.

• Use mirrors as trays or pedestals. Foe instance, you could use on easy the base for your beautiful crystal bowl or to place your candles in the dining room.

Care of the mirror:
• The best way to clean a mirror is with a sheet of newspaper and warm water. Glass cleaners, vinegar and rubbing alcohol are also effective.

• For that extra shine, rub peeled potato skins on the mirror, then wipe with a soft moist cloth.

• Protect the frame from discoloration by spraying the glass cleaner on a rag/towel/paper first rather than directly on the mirror.

• To avoid mirrors from flaking, never allow the glass cleaner to run around the edges. Most cleaners cause the silver oxidize and turn black.
