In India, even today, when the parent child relationship is changing and they are more open to talk with each other and are more of friends when the children grow up, a lot of parents overreact when they hear their daughter wanting to marry someone she loves. It is not that they don’t want to see the daughter happy but in the eyes of parents, children will always be children and when it comes to daughter they are extra protective about them and want someone they approve of for their daughter. So, the next time you are in a situation like this, don’t overreact or act strict with your daughter, instead take her into confidence, meet the love of her life you might like him for your princess.

Talk to your daughter about the man she is in love with. Show your interest and ask things. Tell her that you are interested in meeting him and if you like him she will get the green signal from your side. Make sure not to pressurize her, instead joke things about but do enquire the following

1. The first thing, ofcourse the name.
2. His occupation.
3. Where does he live?
4. Are his parents aware of their relationship?
5. What things your daughter liked about her man.
6. Was the guy ever involved with someone else or what his intentions are?
7. What your daughter knows about his family?
8. How long she knows this person?
9. What are his likes and dislikes?
10. You must enquire about something particular you are looking for.

PREPARE YOURSELF
Trust me that parents are as nervous as the guy himself when they are meeting for the first time. Show enthusiasm it will make your daughter happy. Decorate your house and make it presentable just the way you do for your boss or other special guests. And wear decent and presentable clothes to greet the guest and don’t forget to put that smile on your face. Make sure that you have made nice food arrangements. Food is a great way to start any conversation. Don’t forget to make the favourite dish of the boy if your daughter has mentioned it. It will make the guy at ease and your daughter happy and she will also get the feeling that you care. Make sure it is for the first time visit. If the person has already visited you, then all this could make him at discomfort.  Make sure you don’t call any relative even the closest one to home when your girl’s boyfriend is visiting you.
