SUBSTITUE METHOD
For each bad habit, try substituting a good habit. Every time you feel like scratching your hairs, get involved in some piece of work you have been delaying for long. Shoo away that smoking, by writing your thoughts down or calling someone you care for and have not spoken for months. Keep your cigarettes out of reach. Many irritating habits are retained because we hardly see how annoying they are to others. Make list of your habits and ask your friends and family that how offensive they are to them. Try to replace bad habits with good ones.
CHALLENGE METHOD
Challenge yourself to do so. If you really want to defeat the particular habit, tell your close ones about it and let them criticize you each time you are getting off track.
Such challenges will keep a check on your bad habits. Show your strength by winning over the temptation. It will take a little time and hard work, but you will win out in the end. The fact that they are not easy to eliminate will give you a wonderful feeling of achievement when you do eliminate them.
ACQUIRING GOOD ONES
The first thing to work toward good habits is the habit of doing things habitually. Concentrate on whatever you do. Learn to do things with attention to how, where and what, and after a while they will become habits. If you have the annoying habit of leaving the toilet seat up, force yourself to concentrate on putting it back.
Do this with attention and awareness for a few days, and it will become habit. A little concentration at the beginning will save lots of time and effort later on. Once a thing becomes habit, you need hardly think about it anymore. Force yourself to do all the little things with attention for a while. Many successful men are successful because they forced themselves to concentrate on success and their businesses almost automatically. The small, necessary, repetitive chores and duties have become habit.
Looking in the mirror every morning and smile. It will make you happy. Get into the habit of trying to make other people comfortable. Think of their problems instead of your own and you will conquer another cause of unhappiness. Once you make it a habit to be interested in others and think of their comfort, you will not have time to think of yourself. And that will curb so many of unnecessary worries you have.
Habits make you. Try to make habits. Beat the bad ones and cultivate the good ones. Try these methods, they really work and you never know which one gets as a habit into you.
