On the eve of the 61st Independence year, one really wonders that the country of 100 billion really independent? Though this country has pulled of many greats and heights in the last 61 years of Independence but still somewhere within, a major question mark arises on the potency and hullaboo that is created around the Independence Day the country has been celebrating year after year.

Parliament of a country is a political shrine of that country. But the recent occurrence during the Vote of Confidence season made me lose confidence in the leadership of the political community of this country, which claims to rule this country rather than serve. The body language of the leaders is more of dictatorial rulers rather than elected representatives of the people working for their welfare. It had all ended in the game of power where the bidding for the highest degree of debauchery was rewarded heavily. Every seat in the Parliament of India had a price tag. Corruption no more was an activity of the dark but it had become a lifestyle. The nation watched while it’s leaders went on a rampage and nothing could be done about it as the entire nation of 100 crores sat helplessly watching the Degeneration of an Independent India.

The truth of economic independence is slowly emerging in India. Though the countries billionaires list has been on an ever rise in the Forbes list of Rich people but a recent report of Home Ministry completely makes the glow of these mega claims fade away. Though the young leaders of Young India make moving speeches to gather claps and votes in the lower house of the Parliament but still the woman who paved the path for their success still awaits justice.
Today this nation is in it’s worse phase because the Independence, we Indians tend to celebrate Independence day year after year as a habit seems futile and contrived.

Using religion to divide the nation is no new ploy to the Indians earlier British used to the peak for it's benefit and the same is being done by today’s politicians. The condition of the think-tanks of this country is very similar to their Pakistani counterparts. The Kashmir issue is their life line. Their entire existence will cease the day this issue will be resolved. To fuel their existence and their living it is very essential that this issue remains alive in all forms. The biggest hypocricy the politicians of this nation suffer is from the syndrome of secularism. After more than 61 years of independence and after having a history of co-existence the minorities of this country need to stop feeling vindicated for no rhyme or reason.

The recent triumph of Abhinav Bindra as a triumph of the country but a personal one because this boy has not reached the height because this country stood by him during his struggle. He has achieved this mostly despite the mangled institutions and terrible infrastructure provided to him in the Indian democracy where a sports person is treated like a beggar of sponsorship and yet manages to function in this chaotic, corrupt system, and come out of it as a winner in the face of it all. Though today we stand proud as a rapidly developing nation and are excited over wel-coming the Independence day again this year, we should real¬ly think once that as a nation are we really independent?
