Boss's Good Books Rated by 1 users
It is never easy with your bosses except for when you are your own boss. When you are working under someone, all of us make mistakes when dealing with our respective bosses but we never know which mistake cost us our career and there are certainly some things no boss likes. Keep in mind and be in your boss’s good books.
1. Not possible: The task you have been given may be impossible but you need not declare the same to your boss. Chances are that the impossible task means a lot to him and starting off on a pessimistic note makes things even more difficult. Try to explain your point of view and do it with giving alternate solutions.
2. Appreciate even if you expected more: However, it’s imperative, at least out of courtesy that you appreciate whatever little your boss does for you. If he gets a new water cooler installed, appreciate the act. Don't fuss if it does not give out ice cold water. These unrealistic expectations will really make the boss irritating.
3. There will be times when your boss is expected to pack in a lot more than he can handle. Everybody needs assistance at such times and chances are your boss is expecting you to do that extra bit & take on some added responsibility. Be flexible in those times, it will really pay you well later.
4. Complaints about your recruitment work: There may be many things that your boss asks you to do may not have been put down in your offer letter. But your offer letter also didn’t mention that you are free to use the office infrastructure, be it getting free printouts, e-mailing your friends at odd hours etc. So, don’t fuss when your boss asks you to do something a little out of the way.
5. The important issue: No boss wants his employee to waste an entire day doing something that is of no consequence to the company. So don’t think on how important the job is just do as told as that’s what you are paid for.
6. Don’t grade your boss’s idea as bad: All of us including the boss will have his/her share of dumb ideas. But don’t tell him directly that it sound bad. You may be voicing an honest opinion but your boss has a certain ego and rubbing it the wrong way is big mistake. Wait for the correct time and correct place.
7. Informal conversations: You want to strike an informal conversation with your boss and the first thing that comes to your mind is that extremely exciting incident which may be otherwise for the boss. So think before you speak as your story can be an indicator that you can’t keep your personal & professional life apart.
8. A long sigh: Normally, a long sigh is seen as a sign of annoyance and being fed up. Also, a confused sigh is something that leaves many-things open for your boss personal interpretation. Few things in life are as risky as that. Keep in mind when you do that sign.
