The Squaw Valley, adjacent to Lake Tahoe which is a place for those who have not heard about it yet, is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of the United States and a place to visit anytime of the year.
And the snowfall on the mountain makes it beam in its white coat, reflecting sunlight. You can spot the colorfully dressed skiers coming down the slopes and on another side, the cable cars followed in tandem carrying the springy skiers. A 360 degree view from the cable car gives the overall depth of the pristinely beautiful Squaw Valley.
From young kids to senior citizens, the spirit of adventure sports is infectious and makes it a memorable experience altogether and that’s what the place is all about. From Heavenly Valley, south of the lake, to Alpine Meadows, on the west side, Tahoe has perhaps, the best ski play¬grounds in North America where the variety of ski terrain seem limitless. Since 1960 Olympics, Squaw Valley has been one of the famous ski areas in the US. About 10 miles west of the lake, a torch from the 1960 Winter Olympic Games still burns at the road marking the entrance to Squaw Valley, California.
Most people leave Squaw Valley and usually head for the casinos on the north or south shores of Lake Tahoe, or drive into Reno for some nightlife. The roads are usually good, though they can be icy; and after a long day of slaloming on the skies, driving requires extra concentration. If you are winning, the casinos are great fun; if not, Squaw Valley under a half-moon is a fine consolation.
From the Tahoe Village, you can head towards the Emerald Bay to reach the most celebrated scenic route in Lake Tahoe area. One of the attractions on the route is an easy hike to an intriguing Norse-style struc¬ture called Vikingshoim Castle, a 38-room re-creation of a Viking fortress which is one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the West. From there one can take 2 hours of drive, you can reach Eagle Falls. The best view of the entire Lake Tahoe is from the gondola at Heav¬enly. Of the six ski slopes, Heavenly is the most picturesque. Going up the cable car, the view is breathtaking.
Once on top, a buzz of activities occur with skiers, both learners and professionals, busily moving all over, while the ski cars goes up and down the higher elevations continuously carrying the skiers. You can get there by air as San Francisco is the convenient international gateway. Jet Airways, Air India, Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa and many other airlines fly to SFO regularly. A car is not necessary in and around Lake Tahoe. In fact, having a car may become a nuisance.
