Diet pills are not to be used by all those who consider themselves overweight ,it has been formulated for those suffering from serious obesity , with a Body Mass Index (BMI ) of 30 plus. They have not been intended to replace convention diet and weight loss programs. Dieters who fail to lose weight on orthodox diet plans should not suddenly turn to pills without consulting a doctor. Among the prescription diet pills nine of them are easily available and they work by activating the central nervous system by suppressing appetite. Some of the well known ones are Phentermine, Adipex, Didrex, and Phendimetrazine. The over the counter drugs increases the metabolic rate leading to increase in calorie burning and are available without a doctor's prescription.
Since Diet drugs are not for cosmetic solution, they are taken in extreme cases of obesity with a BMI of over 30. A Doctor's guidance is essential. Blood pressure, heart condition etc are thoroughly checked before drugs are prescribed. Diet pill is for short term use and long term usage is prohibited owing to its chemical composition. Possible side effects include nervousness, diarrhea, high blood pressure, dry mouth, and in rare cases bulging eyes.
